DIRT OPTIONAL - an airplant living wall
Indoor gardener alert, for outdoor lovers and botanical admirers, a living wall of tillandsia or air plants offers a carefree alternative to indoor plants. These hardy and water-wise friends require no soil to grow (you heard that right) and boast a range of exotic shapes and vibrant colors.
A low-maintenance plant-lover's dream. Air plants sustain themselves on moisture from the air and naturally grow off of tree branches, rocks, or other plants. So if watering that succulent every two weeks proved to be a bit too ambitious, the air plant is for you.
Better With Friends
One is lovely but many make a statement. Here is our stylish way to display airplants in your home decor. With this wall decor idea, we displayed 60 air plants. We selected different sizes, shapes, and textures to add interest and movement. This, combined with the varying shades of green, lends the room an undeniable natural vibe.
Arrange in an organic, free-flowing design. Negative space is your friend with this laidback look. No design remorse here, map out your arrangement with pieces of painter’s tape. Pop a piece of tape on the wall for each proposed plant. That’s how you get that oh so casual ‘it just happened like that’ look.
A Floating Mount
Because of the air plant's minimal root system, you can display them in a Thigmotrope Satellite. A big mouthful for what is essentially a metal spike you screw into the wall to hold the air-plant. You can screw these beauties directly into a mounting surface, painted drywall, wood, or even cement. The three prongs gently cradle your air plants, allowing for effortless placement rearrangement.
Air Plant Maintenance
Air Plant maintenance in a cinch. Remove the air plants every couple of weeks and soak for 20 minutes in a sink of cold water. Turn upside to drain before you place them back onto the spikes.
